Rocky Mountain Shito-Ryu Karate-Do periodically sponsors Women’s Self-Defense Classes and Seminars to the public absolutely free of charge as a Community Service.

Seminars usually last four to six hours. Classes are conducted over the period of a month to six weeks and consist of a one hour class once per week.

Sensei White worked as a Correctional Officer for over 23 years for both the Federal Bureau of Prisons and the State of Missouri Department of Corrections as well. He has been a Lieutenant and was also a member of the Federal Correctional Institute’s Disturbance Control Team for five years. He has dealt with real criminals on a regular basis. He has also found himself in actual life-or-death situations where he has been forced to rely on his training and skills to survive.

In this occupation it was mandatory that he receive self-defense training once a year. He realized that this training was not enough for the average person to retain any really useful information. There was too much information and techniques that were too complicated. He then looked at many of the Women’s Self-Defense courses that were available to the public and came to the same conclusion about those as well.

Sensei White then went to work to come up with a course that would be educational with techniques that could easily be remembered. He took moves and techniques from traditional karate as well as other martial arts, simplified them, and created a series of simple and easy to remember techniques. He then went a step further and studied how the mind of a predatory criminal worked and that of the victim as well.

While others who have never dealt with real world violence are charging fees up to $100.00 for courses in self-defense, Rocky Mountain Shito-Ryu provides them at no cost. Why? It is Sensei White’s philosophy that doing so is taking advantage of people’s fear in order to make monetary gains.

We at Rocky Mountain Shito-Ryu Karate-Do invite you to experience one of our seminars or classes. It really works. How do we know? A lady brought her teen daughter to one of our seminars. About two months after the training she came to Sensei White and thanked him for the class. Her daughter was walking from her school to lunch when six other girls jumped her. A passerby saw what was happening and called the police. The first officer on the scene told the mom that the officers actually hated breaking the “fight” up. Shocked she asked why. She was told that the officers thought it was pretty awesome that one skinny little girl was holding off six older larger girls. His exact words were, “It looked like something out of a Bruce Lee movie”. That’s how we know it works...Because it does.
