J. White, Sensei has been studying the martial arts in one form or another for over 30 years. He began studying Tae Kwon Do at the age of 17. He went on to study a variety of styles such as Kenpo (both American and Chinese forms), Hap Ki Do, Kung Fu, Ninjitsu, Aikido, and Ju-Jitsu.White Sensei moved to Canon City, Colorado in 1993. In 1996 he began to study Shito- Ryu. He felt comfortable with the style and loved the tradition behind it. The thing that appealed to him the most about Shito-Ryu was that the style was developed and created so that anyone regardless of age, gender, or many physical restrictions could practice and excel in it. He earned the rank of Shodan in 2002. In 2003, White Sensei joined the Pacific Karate-Do Institute under supervision of John Bartholomay, Shihan and began teaching Seito Shito-Ryu. Seito means pure form or pure style. He opend the PKI Colorado Dojo in 2004 in Canon City.White Sensei took most of the year 2006 off due to personal and carreer obligations. In March 2007, White Sensei opened Rocky Mountain Shito- Ryu Karate-Do. Still a member of the Pacific Karate-Do Institution, Rocky Mountain Shito- Ryu offers classes in traditional Japanese karate.White Sensei was promoted to the rank of Nidan in January 2008. White Sensei has studied with martial artist such as Mabuni Kenzo, Fumio Demura, John Bartholomay, and John Sells. He has taught rape prevention and self defense classes at Canon City High School. He has conducted seminars and demonstrations for many community organizations and was the Self Defense Instructor at Lincoln Park Gym and Fitness for a time.
