Sensei White's Philosophy It has for a long time been my belief that our children are our greatest resource. They are our legacy to our future and to our planet. I know of no better way to cultivate that resource than the martial arts. Karate, and any other martial art, instills a sense of self confidence, self assurance, and self esteem in a person. There is no better activity in the world to build discipline and etiquette. I have been a first hand witness to many wonderful results of the study of karate in people's lives. I have seen students with low grades in school bring those grades up drastically. I have seen shy self conscience people gain confidence and self esteem. As far as a family activity there is none better. I have seen parents and their children take classes together with great benifits to both. As you work together with each other a whole new level of understanding develops between you and the bonds you have grow even stronger. The dojo, to me, is a family. We work together to help one another grow. There is no one individual in the dojo that is better than another. We are all learning. We are all here to help each other as brothers and sisters to better ourselves and by helping each other, we learn and grow to be better people. You should always remember that you, or your child, is not competing against anyone else but themselves. You study and practice to make yourself better, not dominate others. In this spirit you will never see me as Sensei giving one student preference over another. You will see me do everything in my power to promote individual growth and achievement in the dojo. It is my desire to instill a family atmosphere that promotes learning in a fun and safe enviroment. GO DO SHIN The Five Way Spirit or Five Way Path. Written by Mabuni Kenwa Sensei and recited at the end of each class.Never forget the spirit of first beginning (Will, Determination)Never neglect courtesy and etiquette (Moral Virtue)Never neglect effort (Growth Development)Never loose common sense (Common sense)Never disturb harmony (Peace) THE CODE OF THE KARATE-KA I will train faithfully to strengthen my mind and body.I am willing to endure rigorous training to achieve my goalAs my strength increases I shall seek to cultivate a gentle heart.I will not use my skill outside of the dojo except in the most extreme circumstances. At all times I will avoid inflicting injury upon another person.I will not brag about my skill nor will I use it maliciously.I will train with the spirit of humility.
